Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives member in Ebonyi State, Chief Anayo Edwin Nwonu, and serving lawmaker in the state House of Assembly, Chikodiri Nomeh, have made a significant political move by defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision follows the recent defection of federal lawmakers Chief Lazarus Ogbee, Peter Edeh, and Livinus Makwe, along with their supporters, to the APC.
Nwonu, who previously represented the Ezza North and Ishielu federal constituency, and Nomeh, currently representing the Ezza North West constituency in the state House of Assembly, officially joined the APC at an event organized by the state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr. Jude Okpor, in Ebiaji, Ezza North Local Government headquarters.
Having served in the federal House between 2015 and 2023, Nwonu’s political journey took a turn when he contested for the governorship primary under the PDP but was unsuccessful. He then made a brief stop at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before ultimately deciding to align with the APC.
The duo was warmly welcomed into the APC by the state chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, and other key stakeholders from Ezza North Local Government Area and Ebonyi Central Zone. Chief Lazarus Ogbee, a prominent figure in the zone, emphasized the importance of unity within the party and urged the new members to work collaboratively with existing members for the progress of the state.
In their statements, Nwonu and Nomeh cited Governor Francis Nwifuru’s impactful policies and programs as a driving force behind their decision to join the APC. They expressed their commitment to supporting the governor’s vision for the state and emphasized the need for solidarity and cooperation within the party.
The move signifies a significant shift in Ebonyi State’s political landscape and underscores the growing influence of the APC in the region. As the state prepares for future elections, the defection of these key figures is set to have far-reaching implications on the state’s political dynamics.
