The Kogi State Government has taken a bold step in ensuring the safety and security of its citizens by demolishing shanties and illegal structures around the Ganaja flyover bridge in Lokoja, the state capital. Led by the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Oluwasegun Joseph, the ministry officials carried out the demolition exercise to rid the area of hoodlums and criminals.

Governor Ahmed Ododo’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the Lokoja metropolis and its surroundings was evident in this decisive action. The illegal structures had become a breeding ground for criminal activities, posing a threat to the well-being of the residents. Commissioner Joseph emphasized the importance of eradicating such structures to prevent a rise in insecurity in the area.

In addition to the demolition, the team also evacuated illegal occupants from under the newly constructed Ganaja flyover bridge. Abdullahi Yusuf, the Acting General Manager of Kogi State Town Planning and Development Board, highlighted the repeated warnings given to the occupants to vacate the premises, underscoring the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal activities.

Moving forward, strict measures will be enforced to prevent any unauthorized activities under the Ganaja flyover, including trading, loitering, and dumping of refuse. The government is determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure that public spaces are not misused for unlawful purposes.

This action serves as a warning to others who may be engaging in similar illegal activities, as the government remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state. The demolition of these structures is just the beginning, with further actions planned to reclaim green belts and other public spaces from illegal occupation.

The Kogi State Government’s proactive approach to addressing security concerns and enforcing regulations demonstrates its dedication to creating a safe and secure environment for all residents. By taking decisive action against illegal structures and activities, the government is sending a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated in the state.
