Oyo State Government Demolishes Yoruba Nation Agitators’ Building

The Oyo State Government recently made headlines for demolishing a building in Ibadan belonging to Yoruba Nation agitators. The state Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey, and Urban Development, William Akin-Funmilayo, revealed that the demolition was carried out following a High Court order obtained by the government.

According to Mr. Akin-Funmilayo, the government had received information that the agitators were using the building as their operational base and armoury, prompting the need for its demolition. The building, located at Toye Oyesola Street, Sagari, Boluwaji area of Ibadan, was razed to the ground as a result.

Despite the controversial move, the commissioner reassured residents of the state that the Seyi Makinde-led administration remains committed to ensuring the security of lives and property. He encouraged the public to report any illegal or life-threatening activities in their surroundings to the government for prompt action.

The Yoruba Nation agitators, led by Modupe Onitiri-Abiola, had previously made headlines for hoisting their flag at the Oyo State secretariat, leading to a confrontation with security forces. Following a gun duel, 29 members of the group were arrested, arraigned in court, and subsequently remanded in a custodial center.
