Owerri-Onitsha Express road

Four people died in a crash on Friday at Ogbakwu along Onitsha express road.

The accident involved a lorry and a Lord’s Chosen luxury bus.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred when a lorry with registration number ABU 157 YX came out from Orokwe Market Road and joined Owerri-Onitsha Express Road without proper observation.

It led to a collision with the Lord’s Chosen Luxurious bus coming from Onitsha direction, which veered into the gutter, destroying some shops along the road and hitting three pedestrians.

The lorry driver was said to have absconded after the crash.

Imo Police spokesman, Henry Okoye confirmed the incident in a statement.

He said operatives from the Ogbakwu Divisional Headquarters and the State Traffic Department responded swiftly and assisted in evacuating the victims to Uchenna Hospital Irete for treatment.

“Unfortunately, four people were confirmed dead, while others are responding to treatment,”  he said.
