The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) is urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to boost the annual budget of the North-East Development Commission for a more effective post-insurgency recovery effort in the region.
In a statement released to the press in Damaturu, KACRAN’s National President, Khalil Mohd Bello, emphasized the importance of increasing the budget to empower the Commission’s governing board in their reconstruction and development work, particularly in supporting internally displaced persons who have suffered greatly from the insurgency.
Bello highlighted the NEDC’s significant contributions to security operations by providing utility vehicles and essential materials, which have played a crucial role in the fight against insurgency and led to improved regional security. This support has helped shift the narrative of the North-East from being the epicenter of insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
The National President praised the NEDC for enhancing the policies and programs initiated by the Federal Government, which have been instrumental in the region’s progress over the past four decades. He commended the Commission’s proactive approach to matters concerning regional security and the well-being of its residents, recognizing its potential as a transformative force for the North East and its people.
KACRAN itself has benefited from the NEDC’s support, receiving relief materials, water sources, livestock feed, and assistance for members affected by cattle rustling or insurgency. The Association stands as a testament to the positive impact of the Commission’s initiatives on the livelihoods of those in the region.
By increasing the budget of the North-East Development Commission, President Tinubu has the opportunity to further strengthen the Commission’s efforts in rebuilding and supporting the North East, ultimately contributing to the region’s recovery and development.
