Zamfara govt discovers unknown illness in two LGAs, deploys health personnel, Zamfara

The executive secretary of primary health care development in Zamfara,  Dr Hussaini Yakubu Anka, says the state government has discovered an unknown illness in two local government areas in the state, adding that a team of health personnel has been deployed to ascertain the illness in the area.

Speaking with newsmen in Gusau, Anka said the suspected case of undisclosed illness was reported at two local government areas of Maradun and Shinkafi, specifically in villages that bordered Sokoto state.

According to him, on hearing the case, they rapidly sent personnel to the areas to collect samples of water, blood, urine and any other sample that may help, which they did and sent for tests to ascertain the illness.

“We have received the results and we went to the affected villages, and interacted with the victims and currently we identify suspectedly it appears mostly as liver inflammatory, so we suspected hypothesis A virus but not yet confirmed.” 

He said some of the immediate measures taken was to stop the victims from taking contaminated water, “we suspected that there is contamination on the water they are taking,” he said.
