Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State and Ondo State APC governorship aspirant Gbenga Edema found themselves in a heated confrontation over the distribution of election materials for the party’s primary at the BON hotel in Akure.
Ododo, who chairs the seven-member committee overseeing the Ondo APC governorship primary, was accused by Edema of breaching protocols for the exercise. Edema claimed that election materials were supposed to be distributed to various wards in the state according to a specific schedule announced by the secretary of the primary election committee, Ovie Omo-Agege.
In response, Governor Ododo defended the committee’s actions, stating that materials had already been sent to wards in the North and South senatorial districts, with only the central district remaining to be sorted out.
However, Edema countered by stating that his ward in the South senatorial district had not received any materials, despite the presence of the returning officer. He expressed frustration at the lack of transparency in the distribution process and questioned how materials could have arrived at certain locations without proper documentation.
The clash between the two political figures highlights the tensions and challenges surrounding the electoral process in Ondo State. As the APC primary continues, the issue of fair and efficient distribution of election materials remains a point of contention among party members and aspirants.
The incident at the BON hotel serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process, as well as the need for proper communication and coordination among party officials. As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on the outcome of the primary and the implications it may have for the future of politics in Ondo State.
