The Federal Government has announced the commencement of demolition exercises for buildings situated within the designated right of way for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.
The demolition activities are scheduled to begin this coming Saturday, April 27th, 2024, with an initial focus on the first three kilometers of the road corridor.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Korede Keisha, urged residents whose properties have been earmarked for demolition to visit the Ministry’s secretariat in Lagos as soon as possible. The ministry will be available to address any concerns and answer questions related to the demolition process today, Thursday, April 25th, and tomorrow, Friday, April 26th. This deadline serves as the last opportunity for affected residents to seek clarification or discuss potential solutions.
The demolition notices were previously issued to residents whose properties fall within the designated right of way for the project. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is a large-scale infrastructure project spanning 700 kilometers and is expected to take eight years to complete. The total project cost is estimated at N4 billion per kilometer, translating to a total of N15 trillion. The road will connect Lagos State to Cross River State, passing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states.
This development follows the recent announcement by Minister of Works Dave Umahi, who revealed details regarding the project’s timeline and budget.
The construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is anticipated to significantly improve transportation networks and economic opportunities within the connected states. However, the demolition exercise might displace some residents. The Ministry encourages all affected residents to reach out within the designated timeframe to address their concerns and explore potential solutions.
