Mubi, Adamawa State – April 27, 2024

A serious measles outbreak has gripped Mubi North Local Government Area in Adamawa State, claiming the lives of at least 19 children. Health Commissioner, Mr. Felix Tangwami, confirmed this devastating news to reporters on Saturday.

More than 200 children in Mubi North have contracted measles, a highly contagious viral disease. Following reports of the outbreak, health officials immediately mobilized medics and essential drugs to the affected communities.

The health commissioner assured residents that children with severe cases will be referred to hospitals for specialized care. Additionally, medical teams are preparing to move from Mubi to Gombi Local Government Area, where another outbreak has been identified.

Mr. Tangwami blamed the outbreak on low childhood immunization rates. Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease, and widespread vaccination is crucial to stop its spread.
