Nigerian Government Denies Plans for Foreign Military Bases

The Nigerian government has rejected assertions regarding the establishment of foreign military bases within its borders. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, dismissed these claims, labelling them as unfounded “false alarms” in a press statement released on Monday.

Idris emphasized that Nigeria has neither engaged in discussions nor considered proposals from foreign nations for hosting military installations. He urged the public to disregard such rumours.

“The Federal Government is not in any such discussion with any foreign country. We have neither received nor are we considering any proposals from any country on the establishment of any foreign military bases in Nigeria,” the statement read.

Idris further highlighted that Nigeria already benefits from foreign cooperation in addressing its security challenges. The government remains committed to strengthening these partnerships to achieve the national security objectives outlined in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

This clarification comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to enhance security and stability, with a focus on seeking international cooperation to address security concerns.
