In a significant development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended six senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on suspicion of involvement in an alleged N6 billion fraud. According to reliable sources, the arrested officers are currently undergoing interrogation at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

While specific details of the investigation remain limited, it has been confirmed that the NSCDC officers were handed over to the EFCC on the directive of the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi. The move followed a letter from the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to the NSCDC CG, requesting the release of the officers for questioning.

Sources familiar with the situation, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that the EFCC is probing the senior NSCDC officers over alleged fraudulent activities amounting to over N6 billion. However, it’s emphasized that the NSCDC CG is not under investigation or custody.

In confirmation of the arrests, another source clarified that the EFCC did not detain the NSCDC CG and reiterated that only six senior NSCDC officers are currently in EFCC custody undergoing interrogation for their alleged involvement in the fraud.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, for official comments, were unsuccessful as calls and messages to his phone went unanswered.

On the other hand, when contacted for a response, the spokesperson for the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, stated that he was not aware of the situation, declining to provide further details.
