Chaos erupted at Kogi State University of Science and Technology Osara (CUSTECH) as bandits stormed the campus, leading to the abduction of numerous students and leaving behind a scene of disarray. The harrowing incident unfolded at approximately 9 pm on Thursday, with personal effects of students strewn across classrooms—a stark testament to the turmoil experienced.

DAILY POST’s coverage includes a distressing video showcasing the aftermath of the invasion, where bandits, reportedly in large numbers, breached the university’s defenses via a bush path. The ensuing confrontation with the institution’s security personnel escalated into a prolonged exchange of gunfire, lasting over half an hour.

A student who narrowly escaped recounted the ordeal, describing how the assailants targeted lecture halls where students were engaged in late-night study sessions. The student criticized the university management’s decision to keep a crucial mini-gate closed, which, if opened, might have reduced the number of abductions.

In the wake of the attack, the exact count of missing students remains uncertain. However, sources indicate that at least 57 students have been taken, with one sustaining injuries from gunfire. Security forces, including the police, have been deployed to the university and its surrounding areas in response to the crisis.

Professor Abdulraman Asipita, the Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, has assured that measures are in place to manage the situation. Despite attempts, communication with SP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kogi State, was not established at the time this report was compiled.
