Nigerian Navy Captures MV BLU-SHARK in Maritime Security Crackdown”

News Report: In a decisive action reinforcing maritime security, the Nigerian Navy has successfully intercepted the vessel MV BLU-SHARK, which was allegedly on the run from Gabon without proper documentation. The vessel was apprehended near Calabar on May 6, as confirmed by Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, the Navy’s Director of Information.

The interception was executed by the naval ship NNS OSE, resulting in the arrest of 11 crew members aboard the MV BLU-SHARK. The operation was initiated following an alert from the Multinational Maritime Coordination Center Zone D, which had issued a request for the search and potential arrest of the vessel, identified by its IMO number 8767783.

The vessel is reported to have fled Port Gentil, Gabon, on the night of May 2, bypassing the mandatory customs clearance required by Gabonese maritime and customs authorities. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by regional maritime security agencies in policing the Gulf of Guinea.
