Asari Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant, has openly criticized Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of “playing god” in the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State. The tension, which involves Wike and his political godson, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has escalated, with Dokubo lambasting President Bola Tinubu for allegedly exacerbating the situation.
In a video released on X.com, Dokubo expressed his displeasure over President Tinubu’s handling of political appointments in Rivers and Bayelsa states, accusing him of favoring Wike unduly. “He is now playing god. It is dead on arrival, all those things that he is doing,” Dokubo commented about Wike’s actions.
In the midst of this, Governor Fubara highlighted positive developments in the state’s economy, reporting a significant increase in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N12 billion at the start of his tenure to N27 billion. However, Dokubo alleges that the actual figure was much lower when Fubara began his term, claiming it was only N6 billion.
Adding to the political drama, Governor Fubara announced the establishment of a panel of inquiry to investigate governance issues in Rivers State. This move followed the resignation of Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, SAN, the former Attorney-General and Justice Commissioner. Fubara took the opportunity to criticize Adangor’s actions during his tenure and welcomed Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, urging him to uphold the state’s integrity against internal sabotage.
