Governor Ademola Adeleke Honoured with Chieftaincy Title in Ede, Oyo State

In a vibrant and well-attended ceremony, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State was honoured with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Asiwaju of Ede on Monday. The event, held in Ede town, attracted a host of dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and governors from neighbouring states.

Promising to continue his role as a servant to the people, Governor Adeleke expressed his gratitude and called for the support and prayers of all stakeholders. “As I assume this new role, I seek the cooperation, prayers, and support of all and sundry for our dedication to take Osun to greater heights,” he declared.

The ceremony saw the attendance of notable figures such as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun. Prominent traditional leaders including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Timi of Ede, Oba Adesola Lawal, also graced the event.

Governor Seyi Makinde lauded Governor Adeleke for his infrastructural developments in Osun State. He humorously noted a friendly competition in governance and development between the two, emphasizing a shared vision for progress in their respective states. “Oyo and Osun, we are one and the same. In Nigeria today, another Asiwaju has emerged,” Makinde remarked, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect among the governors.

Governor Adeleke, popularly nicknamed the ‘dancing governor’, was sworn in as the sixth elected governor of Osun State on November 27, 2022. He continues the political legacy of his late elder brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the first elected governor of the state. The chieftaincy title marks a recognition of his contributions and commitment to the development and well-being of the people of Ede and Osun State at large.
