Convicted Kidnap Kingpin Evans Seeks Plea Bargain in Lagos State High Court

Convicted billionaire kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, commonly known as Evans, has approached the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja seeking a settlement through a plea bargain. Evans, alongside his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

During the court session on Thursday, the state prosecution counsel, Mr. Yusuf Sule, informed Justice Adenike Coker of the defendant’s interest in a plea bargain. The case, scheduled for re-arraignment, involves an amended five-count charge encompassing murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping and attempted murder.

Sule disclosed that the plea bargain terms are currently under consideration by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN). The move towards a plea bargain marks a significant development in the high-profile case, which has attracted substantial public and media attention.

The plea bargain, if accepted, could potentially alter the course of the legal proceedings against Evans and Emeka. The court will await further decisions from the Attorney-General’s office regarding the proposed settlement terms.
