Nigerian Athletes Shine Ahead of Paris Olympics

The build-up to the Paris Olympic Games is promising for Nigerian athletes, who continue to deliver impressive performances ahead of the global sporting event.

Favour Ofili made headlines at the Adidas Atlanta City Games by breaking the African Record in the women’s 150m straight, clocking 16.30 seconds despite a slight stumble at the start. She narrowly finished second to her training partner, American sprinter Candace Hill, who won by just 0.006 seconds.

In the men’s 100m final, Nigerian sprinter Udodi Onwuzurike clocked a Season’s Best of 10.12 seconds, securing fourth place despite a headwind. South African Akani Simbine won with a World Lead of 9.90 seconds.

World Record holder Tobi Amusan also competed, finishing second in the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.73 seconds, just behind Keni Harrison of the USA.

Ese Brume impressed in the women’s Long Jump with a Season’s Best of 6.87 meters, securing third place and surpassing the Olympic qualification standard. American Tara Davis-Woodhall dominated the event with a World Lead jump of 7.17 meters.

These performances highlight the dedication and talent of Nigerian athletes as they prepare for a strong showing in Paris.
