Over the weekend, 198 officers of the Nigerian Army participated in the Captain to Major examination at the School of Supply and Transport in Benin City. The examination is a critical step for captains due for promotion to the rank of major.
During a cocktail party held for the officers, Major General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army and Examination President, addressed the attendees. He highlighted the importance of continuous professional development and the role these officers will play in maintaining national security.
“In the last month, 198 captains due for promotion to the rank of major from across the country have been here, undergoing a refresher course and mock exam, culminating in a written promotion examination,” Major General Aligbe stated.
Major General Aligbe emphasized the army’s dedication to training and retraining its personnel to better equip them for the nation’s security challenges. “Much will be demanded from you because of the myriad of security challenges confronting the nation,” he noted.
The commander urged the officers to remain vigilant and proactive. “You have done your job, but as long as the last figment of insecurity hibernates somewhere in the country, it is our collective responsibility to defeat insecurity in all ramifications, and you will play a leading role in all of this,” he asserted.
He also acknowledged the officers’ contributions to the successes recorded by the army across various theaters of operations and encouraged them to continue their efforts to secure the nation.
In a significant announcement, Major General Aligbe revealed that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has designated Benin City as the permanent location for the Captain to Major written examination for officers. He commended this decision, noting the strategic importance of having a consistent and centralized examination process.
This event underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professional development and operational readiness. As these officers prepare for their new roles as majors, they are expected to play a crucial part in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and upholding the nation’s safety and stability.
