Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II Mounts Palace Seat Amidst Controversy

In a dramatic turn of events, the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has taken his place on the palace seat, receiving royal greetings despite a court order prohibiting his reinstatement. The development comes amidst tensions and conflicting legal interpretations in Kano State.

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, adorned in traditional regalia, emerged from the Emir’s inner palace to the outer palace. There, in a display of royal tradition, he majestically rode a horse, greeted by the cheers of hundreds of supporters.

Earlier, Kano State’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, addressed the press, asserting the legality of Sanusi’s reinstatement. He dismissed the court order, stating, “Nobody can change their position on the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II because they did it legally.”

Gwarzo further claimed that the court order was not officially delivered and was issued after working hours, rendering it ineffective. “The so-called court order banning them from reinstating Sanusi was not officially submitted to them, and as at the time they did the reinstatement, it was after working hours, which shows that anything coming from the court on that matter is already late,” he said.

Despite the joint security agency’s declaration to uphold the court order, Sanusi’s supporters and the Kano State government seem resolute in their decision, escalating the ongoing legal and political battle over the Emir’s position.
