Yabram, Krachi East Municipality, Oti Region, Ghana – A misunderstanding among Fulani herdsmen in Yabram, a farming community near Dambai, escalated into violent machete clashes, resulting in the death of a resident and serious injuries to others.

Abdulrahman Abdulai tragically lost his life, sustaining a fatal throat slash during the altercation. Additionally, three individuals identified as Ibraima Jibo, Mahamudu Iko, and Lasi Mahamudu Iko suffered severe machete wounds and were rushed to medical facilities for urgent care.

Philip Kwadwo Bidaba, the Assembly Member for the Kwame-Akura East Electoral Area, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA). According to Bidaba, the conflict arose when a herdsman, under the influence of hard drugs, failed to lead the animals to graze, triggering a violent dispute.

“I received a distress call and hurried to the scene to prevent further bloodshed,” said Bidaba. He also coordinated the transportation of the injured to the health centres. Tragically, one of the victims was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The GNA’s visit to the Dambai Health Centre confirmed that one of the injured victims was responding positively to treatment. Further inquiries at the E.P. Dan Moser Memorial Clinic revealed that two other victims were under medical care, with one being guarded by police officers.

Victor Kwame, the second-in-command at the E.P. Clinic, assured that the victims were responding well to treatment and were no longer in critical condition.

The local police command has maintained a presence at the clinic but has yet to release any detailed statements regarding the incident. Meanwhile, the deceased, Abdulrahman Abdulai, has been transported to the WoraWora Government Hospital morgue for preservation.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions and potential for violence within the Fulani herding community, emphasizing the need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms in the region.
