Polokwane, South Africa – Thousands of supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) gathered at a stadium in Polokwane on Saturday for the party’s final election rally, marking the end of a fervent campaign period.

As South Africa approaches what could be a pivotal election, with potential significant shifts after 30 years of democracy, the country’s four main political parties have wrapped up their campaigns. EFF leader Julius Malema addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support and celebrating what he described as a successful campaign.

“I am here to conclude the campaign of the EFF. I am here to say to you, we have run a good race. We are here today because we ran a very successful campaign. The ground forces of the EFF have made everybody aware that there is a child called the EFF, who must be allowed to lead,” Malema declared, igniting cheers from the assembled supporters.

Malema highlighted the critical issues facing South Africa, including an unemployment rate of 32%—the highest in the world—and pervasive poverty, with over half of the population living below the poverty line.

“Now, the people of South Africa must decide if they want unemployment. They must decide if they want load-shedding. They must decide if they want to remain landless. The people of South Africa, it is now in your hands. We leave here very proud that we did everything to make our generation very proud,” he urged, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election.

The election process began with special voting on Friday, May 17, at nine South African missions abroad, providing early voting opportunities for South Africans living overseas. The main election is set for May 29th and will take place across all provinces, determining the composition of both the national and provincial legislatures.

The EFF’s rally in Polokwane underscored the party’s commitment to addressing the urgent socio-economic issues that continue to challenge South Africa. As the election day approaches, the political landscape is poised for potential shifts that could redefine the country’s future.

The rally, marked by vibrant displays of the EFF’s red and the energy of its supporters, reflected the party’s grassroots strength and its message of economic freedom and social justice. As the nation prepares to vote, the EFF’s call for change resonates with many South Africans seeking solutions to the pressing issues of unemployment, poverty, and land ownership.
