Tel Aviv, Israel – The military wing of the Palestinian militant group Hamas announced on Sunday that it had launched a significant rocket attack targeting Israel’s commercial centre, Tel Aviv. The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for the barrage, citing it as a response to what they described as Israeli attacks on civilians.

According to Israel’s army, multiple rockets were fired toward central areas of the country from the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants have been ongoing. Israeli air defences intercepted several of the projectiles, the military confirmed.

Reports from the Gaza Strip indicated that rockets were launched from Rafah, while in Tel Aviv, residents heard sirens signalling incoming rockets and reported hearing explosions.

The escalation in hostilities comes amid heightened tensions following recent clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants. The conflict originated from an attack by Hamas on southern Israel, resulting in casualties and hostage-taking.

Both sides have reported civilian casualties, with Gaza’s health ministry reporting significant casualties from Israeli airstrikes in retaliation for Hamas attacks.

It’s important to note that Hamas is recognized as a terrorist organization by several countries, including Israel, the United States, and others.
