Enugu State Governor Inaugurates 8th Council of Traditional Rulers

Enugu, Nigeria – Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has inaugurated the 8th Council of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, urging royal fathers to actively participate in community security efforts in collaboration with all levels of government.

During the inauguration at the House of Chiefs Chamber of the Enugu State House of Assembly Complex on Monday, Chairman of the Council, Igwe Samuel Asadu of Edem-Ani Autonomous Community in Nsukka Local Government Area, assured the governor of traditional rulers’ commitment to supporting the administration’s vision and mobilizing against insecurity.

Governor Mbah emphasized that traditional rulers play vital roles beyond preserving culture and tradition. They also act as liaisons between communities and the government, aiding in addressing security challenges and promoting peace and unity.

He urged the royal fathers to engage closely with the government and their subjects, facilitating effective communication about government policies and programs, including those related to education, infrastructure, healthcare, security, and general welfare.

Highlighting ongoing developmental projects, including the establishment of 260 smart green schools across electoral wards, the governor emphasized the importance of education and youth empowerment in combating insecurity.

Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Okey Ogbodo, explained that the selection process for the council prioritized fidelity, integrity, and commitment to government development programs, in line with state traditional rulers’ law.

Chairman Igwe Asadu pledged the council’s dedication to the administration’s success, praising Governor Mbah’s transformative initiatives, such as providing water within 180 days and implementing infrastructure projects, including roads and smart schools.

He expressed gratitude for the administration’s investment in community development, highlighting the historic significance of state-funded projects in his town.

The inauguration marked a renewed commitment to collaborative efforts between traditional rulers and the government to enhance security and drive sustainable development across Enugu State.
