Jigawa PDP Vows to Oppose Any Delay in Local Government Elections

The Jigawa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its strong opposition to any attempts to postpone the upcoming local government elections in the state. This declaration was made in a statement on Sunday by the state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Ali Diginsa.

The PDP asserted that it would not permit the state House of Assembly to alter local government electoral laws to facilitate the appointment of caretaker committees in Jigawa’s 27 local government areas. The party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being apprehensive about the elections, alleging that the APC has failed the people of Jigawa by plunging them into poverty and hunger.

“Jigawa people are eager to give APC its scorecard; that is why the party and its leaders do not want the state local government election to take place,” the statement read.

Efforts to reach the APC spokesman for comments were unsuccessful as his number was not reachable at press time.

The PDP’s stance underscores the heightened political tension in Jigawa State as local government elections approach, with both parties preparing for a crucial electoral contest.
