The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has refuted speculations suggesting a rescheduling of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to early 2026. The tournament is currently slated to be held in Morocco.
Reports had circulated about a potential postponement of the competition, attributed to scheduling conflicts with the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States.
However, CAF has clarified that no decision has been made regarding the dates for AFCON 2025. In a statement released on CAF’s X platform, it was stated: “Reports on AFCON 2025 are untrue. The CAF Executive Committee will meet, deliberate, and make a decision on the AFCON 2025 dates. CAF will thereafter issue an official statement on the matter.”
The 2023 AFCON finals, which were delayed, took place earlier this year in Cote d’Ivoire. The Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, finished as runners-up after losing 2-1 to the hosts in the final
