Premier League Clubs Vote to Continue VAR Next Season

At least 19 Premier League teams voted on Thursday in favor of continuing with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system next season.

A proposal to discontinue the use of VAR, raised by Wolves, was rejected as it would have required 14 votes from the 20 clubs to pass.

During a meeting on Thursday, the clubs agreed to focus on six key areas to improve the implementation of VAR. These areas include raising the threshold for VAR intervention and reducing delays in the game.

A Premier League statement read: “Premier League clubs today voted in favour of continuing to operate VAR in the Premier League. While VAR produces more accurate decision-making, it was agreed that improvements should be made for the benefit of the game and supporters.”

The vote underscores the commitment of the majority of the clubs to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of VAR, addressing common criticisms related to its use in matches.
