Sharon Jackson Angu, a housemaid working in Qatar, has proudly celebrated a significant milestone: building a three-bedroom house in Kenya. Despite years of hardship and hopelessness, Sharon achieved her dream by diligently sending money back home to her cousin, Jimmy Larry Murundah, who managed the construction.
Sharon’s journey to homeownership began in 2017, following the death of her mother. With the responsibility of raising her younger siblings falling on her shoulders, she faced numerous financial challenges. Relatives were unwilling to assist, often making hurtful remarks. One aunt refused to help pay her sister’s school fees, citing a lack of funeral contributions, while another suggested she marry to support her family.
These experiences fueled Sharon’s determination to succeed. Motivated by a desire to honour her late mother and prove her doubters wrong, she decided to seek employment abroad. Sharon moved to Qatar and worked as a housemaid, with the primary goal of transforming her family’s living conditions.
After four years of hard work, Sharon accomplished what many relatives had deemed impossible. She sent money to her cousin Jimmy, who oversaw the construction of a beautiful three-bedroom bungalow. Sharon expressed immense gratitude for Jimmy’s support and reliability throughout the process, crediting him with helping her realize her dream.
Reflecting on her achievement, Sharon shared her emotional journey with TUKO.co.ke, stating, “I just wish my parents could be alive to see this.” She emphasized the importance of recognizing her cousin’s efforts, saying, “I just need to give him his flowers while he is still alive, being such distant cousins.”
Sharon’s story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of family support in overcoming adversity and achieving one’s dreams.
