Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University, has advised political parties to use electoral surveys as a tool to enhance their engagements with constituents. In a recent interview on ChannelOne News’ “The Big Issue,” Prof. Sarpong highlighted the importance of surveys in identifying weaknesses and improving constituent interactions.
Prof. Sarpong emphasized that electoral research provides critical feedback from voters, which political parties can use to refine their strategies and enhance their performance. He pointed out that these surveys help parties understand their strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to adjust their approaches accordingly.
By leveraging surveys, political parties can gain a better understanding of their constituents’ needs and preferences. “All elections research has one thing in common. Sensational ones or unsensational ones, we have one thing in common. That commonality is the fact that some voters are engaged, and the prospective voters give that relevant feedback which is summarised and presented as reports from those elections research,” Prof. Sarpong explained.
He further stated that political parties that assess this feedback—whether they agree with their internal research or not—can benefit significantly by incorporating the insights into their strategies. Prof. Sarpong encouraged parties to react positively to the feedback and work towards addressing the issues highlighted in the surveys.
