NPFL Fines Rangers (N5m) and Enyimba (N10m) Following Matchday Chaos

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed significant fines and sanctions on Rangers International FC and Enyimba International FC for their involvement in the chaotic events that marred the Match Day 35 fixture held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Rangers International FC has been fined a total of N5 million for various infractions committed during the match against Enyimba. These infractions include over-ticketing, failure to provide adequate security and crowd control measures, and allowing unauthorized persons access to restricted areas. Additionally, the club has been instructed to implement more effective crowd control mechanisms in future home games.

Failure to comply with the prescribed sanctions within 48 hours may result in further penalties, as per NPFL’s Frameworks and Rules.

On the other hand, Enyimba International FC faces even more severe penalties from the NPFL. The club has been fined a total of N10 million and has forfeited three points and three goals in favour of their opponent for refusing to continue the match after a penalty was awarded against them. Enyimba has also been fined for failing to ensure the proper conduct of their team, disrupting a live broadcast, throwing objects onto the field of play, and encroaching onto the field of play.

Enyimba has been given the same 48-hour window to comply with the prescribed sanctions or opt for a disciplinary panel. Failure to adhere to the sanctions or filing a frivolous appeal may result in additional penalties.

These heavy sanctions underscore the NPFL’s commitment to maintaining discipline and fair play within the league and sending a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
