The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, visited former military Heads of State Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar on Wednesday. The former Vice President met with the ex-Nigerian rulers at their respective residences in Minna, Niger State.
In a post on X, Atiku wrote, “Today, I paid Sallah homage to former Heads of State Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and Gen. Abdulsalami at their residences in Minna, Niger State.”
This meeting comes amid growing speculation that Atiku is laying the groundwork for the 2027 presidential election. In May, Atiku declared his intention to continue contesting for the presidency as long as he remains healthy.
He made this statement while discussing his efforts to form a coalition with Peter Obi, his counterpart from the Labour Party (LP), and other political parties. Atiku’s visit to the influential former leaders has fueled discussions about his future political ambitions and potential strategies leading up to the next election cycle.
