A prominent figure in the Labour Party (LP), Kenneth Okonkwo, has sharply criticized the Julius Abure-led executive, accusing them of being “workers of iniquity” and likening them to a “secret society led by a group of clowns.”

In a recent interview with Symfoni, aired on Thursday, Okonkwo expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of the LP, particularly its inability to organize a credible national convention. He warned that he might leave the party if it continues on its current trajectory.

“My own Labour Party is not impressing me. Assuming they continue on this trajectory where they cannot even hold an acceptable national convention, then you’d tell me I’d be there?” Okonkwo remarked. “Those people are clowns. It is the greatest joke I have ever seen in a political party and then you want to position yourself as a party of integrity. You cannot give what you don’t have.”

Okonkwo didn’t hold back in his criticism of Abure and his associates, saying, “Abure and his cohorts, their tenure is over. Let Abure and his cohorts get behind me. They are workers of iniquity. I don’t rate them. That executive is in charge of the secret society. They should be apprehended.”

The Labour Party has been mired in a leadership crisis since 2023, when deputy national chairman Lamidi Apapa declared himself the acting national chairman. The situation worsened in 2024 after a national convention in Anambra saw Abure re-elected as chairman, further deepening the divide within the party.

The ongoing turmoil within the LP raises concerns about its stability and future, especially as internal conflicts continue to escalate.
