Burkina Faso military leader Ibrahim Traore made a reassuring visit to the national television station RTB in Ouagadougou on Thursday, following a recent attack on its headquarters by projectiles, which resulted in significant damage.

Captain Traore’s presence aimed to personally assess the situation and provide moral support to the RTB staff amidst ongoing reports of instability in the country. Addressing concerns and dispelling rumours, Traore firmly denied speculation that he had gone into hiding.

“We do not flee, ever. We are soldiers, and that is the last thing that crosses your mind. We do not retreat, we do not surrender, and we do not kneel before anyone except our parents and God. That is our mentality,” Traore affirmed during his visit.

In a Q&A session with journalists, Traore also addressed the broader situation in Burkina Faso, accusing certain media outlets of spreading false information. He cited recent unrest in Mansila and criticised media reports that he deemed misleading.

“I think many have understood now; most are lying media. They spent time lying and manipulating, and today when I see their reports and everything they say, it’s shameful. They have proven to all of Africa and the entire world that they are liars. It’s good. I think the Burkinabe youth and the African youth must understand this,” Traore stated emphatically.

The visit shows Traore’s commitment to stability and transparency amidst challenges facing Burkina Faso, emphasising resilience and unity in the face of adversity.
