In a recent interview on Nessa On Air during their press run for the new album CRASH, Bay Area artist Kehlani offered a candid and unbothered response when asked about their ex-boyfriend YG’s current relationship status.

When questioned about Saweetie commenting on a photo of them post-breakup with YG, Kehlani replied, “Well, I’m a lesbian. So, why would I care about my male [exes]? I also don’t care what any of my exes are doing. Male, female, anything. My goal is [for] everybody to be happy. Even when I’m with someone, if we decide that we’re not mutually happy, we really shouldn’t be together and we should go be with people who make us happy. That’s what I want […] I’m so unbothered. If I was bothered, you’d never know.”

Kehlani also praised the relationship between Saweetie and YG, saying, “They make so much sense. Knowing them both, I’m like ‘You know what?’ I really like this.”

Saweetie and YG sparked dating rumors in Spring 2023 after being seen kissing on vacation and cuddling at various events. By January 2024, they confirmed a brief split, but the couple was back together by March, seen together at Rolling Loud California. YG was Saweetie’s first public relationship after her nearly three-year partnership with Quavo ended.

Kehlani and YG dated briefly from late 2019 to early 2020, during which YG was involved in several infidelity scandals. Kehlani addressed these issues in songs, including “You Know Wassup” in November 2019 and later “Valentine’s Day (Shameful)” after their breakup was confirmed.

In the aftermath of their relationship, Kehlani shared behind-the-scenes footage from the studio, describing the creation of “Valentine’s Day (Shameful)” as “therapeutic.” They wrote on Instagram, “Last night making Valentine’s Day (Shameful) .. same room / same people i made ‘You Know Wassup’ with. same energy… feel something and get it off. 3 therapeutic hours. appreciating those who see and hear me, and those around me holding me up. real grateful for expression right now. inward & onward, love always ALL ways.”

In the following year, Kehlani came out as a lesbian, solidifying their identity and perspective on relationships.
