General Zúñiga was apprehended outside a military barracks and taken to the prosecutor’s office. The chief prosecutor’s office plans to launch a criminal investigation against Zúñiga and other participants involved in the coup attempt.
Bolivian President Luis Arce condemned the coup attempt in a televised statement, warning of “irregular military mobilizations” and calling on the Bolivian people to organize and mobilize against the coup efforts.
“Today the country once again faces interests so that democracy in Bolivia is truncated. We need Bolivian people to organize and mobilize against the coup,” Arce stated.
