The Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State has granted the family of the late singer Mohbad permission to conduct a second autopsy. This decision follows the family’s dissatisfaction with the initial autopsy results, which were deemed inconclusive.
Mohbad, a 27-year-old singer, passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023, and was buried the following day. Due to public outcry and demands for clarity on the cause of his death, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy conducted by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
However, the results of the autopsy failed to provide a definitive cause of death, leading to frustration and rejection from Mohbad’s family. They petitioned the coroner’s inquest’s presiding magistrate to ensure that an independent toxicology report is submitted before the final report is presented to the authorities.
During a hearing on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court ruled in favor of Mohbad’s family and their legal representatives, allowing them to proceed with a second autopsy. This move aims to provide a more conclusive understanding of the circumstances surrounding the singer’s untimely death.
