Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and offer him contracts akin to those given to Niger Delta militant leader Tompolo by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a video posted on his Instagram handle, Fayose argued that releasing Kanu would significantly reduce crime in the Southeast and potentially secure more votes for the APC in the 2027 elections.
“Releasing Nnamdi Kanu will reduce crime in the Southeast by 50% and APC will get more votes in 2027,” Fayose stated. “If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give a contract to Tompolo to have peace in the Niger Delta, why can’t we do the same in the Southeast?”
Fayose also noted the financial benefits of this approach, suggesting that security expenditures in the Southeast could be halved if Kanu were released. He further explained that releasing Kanu could shift perceptions among Southeast voters, portraying Tinubu as a leader with good intentions.
His comments come amid appeals from the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other Nigerians for Tinubu to release Kanu.
