A controversial child custody dispute has emerged in the public eye, involving Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, and his daughter’s mother, Sophia Momodu. In a recent Instagram post, Davido addressed the ongoing litigation, stressing his desire for joint parenting and criticising Sophia’s constant references to the death of his son.

According to a statement released by the News Agency of Nigeria, the matter is currently a subject of litigation before the court. Davido expressed displeasure over Sophia’s habit of bringing up the death of his son, who passed away in 2022. In an Instagram story, he wrote, “Your constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point you can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us everyday of our lives.”

In a separate court hearing, Sophia Momodu submitted a counter-affidavit to the court, arguing that Davido is not a fit parent to be granted custody of their daughter. She claimed that Davido is always unavailable and incapable of dutifully caring for their child. Contrary to Davido’s claim that he has consistently fulfilled his financial obligations toward their daughter, Momodu told the court that the child was almost sent away from school because the artiste refused to pay her tuition fees.

In an effort to clarify his position, Davido reiterated his stance on joint parenting, stating, “Joint custody – Both parents will have access to the child. Sole custody – Only a single parent will have access to the child.” The Lagos State High Court has not yet issued a verdict on the matter.
