Nasir El-Rufai’s Administration Accused of Misappropriating Funds

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has made a shocking claim about the administration of ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai. According to Sani, residents and animals drank from the same pond during El-Rufai’s tenure, highlighting the alleged corruption and mismanagement of funds during his administration.

Sani’s statement is part of a broader controversy surrounding allegations of misappropriation of N423 billion during El-Rufai’s time in office. The Kaduna State House of Assembly had set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate all finances, loans, and contracts awarded under the immediate-past governor, which indicted El-Rufai and some of his appointees of siphoning off state funds.

The former environment commissioner, Sani, has also accused El-Rufai’s followers of posting images of rubbish dumps from other states and portraying them as the current state of Kaduna, rather than addressing the issue of N423 billion fraud. In a post on X, Sani wrote, "They were asked to account for N423 Billion. They resorted to ‘Screenshooting’ images of Rubbish dump from other places and portrayed it as that of Kaduna of today. They have forgotten their images of how People and Animals drank from the same pond under their ignominious and corrupt regime in Kaduna (2015-2023)."

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has also set up a panel to investigate the alleged fraud. In response to a fresh allegation about the disbursement of some foreign loans, Sani explained that the number of loans listed in the probe report as having been contracted and disbursed before May 2023 was exaggerated.

The controversy has sparked widespread concern about the state of governance in Kaduna and the alleged corruption that has plagued the state during El-Rufai’s administration. The people of Kaduna are calling for accountability and transparency in the handling of state funds, and Sani’s accusations have brought the issue to the forefront.
