Imo State Independent Electoral Commission Chairman Warns Staff Against Corruption Ahead of Party Primaries
In a bid to ensure transparency and credibility during the upcoming party primaries in Imo State, the Chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Charles Ejiogu, has issued a stern warning to his team. Ejiogu stressed the importance of diligence and transparency in their discharge of statutory responsibilities to the numerous publics of the Commission.
The ISIEC boss made this statement during a routine interface with the 27 Electoral Officers (EOs) of the Commission. He charged the EOs to stay away from corrupt tendencies and instead ensure mandatory compliance with relevant sections of the 2022 Electoral Act as amended. Ejiogu emphasized that the Commission is duty-bound to observe all primary elections and that its presence during the primaries will lend credence to the quest of fostering internal democracy among registered political parties.
In response, the EO for Orlu Local Government Area, Mr. Livinus Okpara, assured the management and staff that the Electoral Officers will not disappoint the Commission, government, and the good people of Imo State. He expressed confidence that all the Electoral Officers in the 27 Local Government Areas are poised to live up to the people’s expectations by ensuring that the right thing is done at the proper time.
The interface took place at the Commission’s operational headquarters, with attendance from the six Commissioners, Administrative Secretary, HOD-Operations, HOD-Party Monitoring, and HOD-Voter Education.
