Bayer Leverkusen’s Simon Rofles Backs Victor Boniface to Regain Form
Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director, Simon Rofles, has expressed his confidence in Victor Boniface’s ability to rediscover his best form at the club. Boniface, a 23-year-old forward, made a promising start to his career at Die Werkself, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in the first half of last season.
The Nigerian international was signed from Belgian Pro League outfit Union St Gilloise and quickly made an impact at Leverkusen. However, his progress was halted when he suffered an injury during Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January. Boniface was sidelined for four months, returning to action towards the end of the season.
Despite his efforts, Boniface failed to regain his pre-injury form, and Rofles believes that it’s only a matter of time before he returns to his best. "After such an injury, it’s not easy for Boniface to regain that explosiveness in order to be able to fully enter into duels – physically, but also mentally," Rofles told Kicker. "It always takes a little time, also to regain confidence in yourself and your body. He’ll be in a completely different state at the start of the season."
Rofles’ words of encouragement will undoubtedly provide a boost to Boniface, who will be looking to make a strong impression in the new season. With Leverkusen aiming to improve on their recent performances, Boniface’s return to form could be a crucial factor in their success.
