Nigeria’s Transmission Company Commits to Power Infrastructure Upgrade

In a significant development, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 330/132/33 kilovolt transformer in Damaturu, Yobe State. The facility is expected to provide 166 megawatts of bulk power supply to the region, marking a major milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure.

According to Ndidi Mbah, the company’s general manager of public affairs, the commissioning was officially conducted on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Mbah highlighted the importance of the upgrade, stating that it will provide a total of 168 megawatts of bulk electricity to Yola Disco, which will distribute the power to customers in Damaturu and surrounding areas.

Despite this development, Nigerians continue to struggle with epileptic power supply, even after recent electricity tariff hikes. The country’s power sector has long been plagued by frequent outages and blackouts, leading to frustration and economic losses for citizens and businesses alike.

The TCN’s efforts to upgrade its infrastructure are a welcome step towards addressing the nation’s power woes. As the country’s transmission company continues to work towards improving its services, Nigerians can only hope that these efforts will soon translate into a more reliable and consistent power supply.
