Tragedy Strikes in Plateau State as School Collapse Claims Over 20 Lives, Governor Orders Closure and Arrests

In a devastating incident, a two-storey building collapsed at Saint Academy, Busa Buji, in Jos North LGA of Plateau State, Nigeria, on Friday, claiming the lives of over 20 people. The tragic event has left many more injured, with some receiving treatment in local hospitals.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, visited the scene of the incident and ordered the immediate closure of the school, citing safety concerns. The governor also instructed security agencies to arrest any artisanal miners operating in residential areas across the state.

According to DSP Alfred Alabo, Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, 22 people lost their lives in the collapse, while 132 others were rescued and are receiving treatment. The governor has promised that the government will bear the cost of treatment for those injured in the incident.

The governor’s visit to the scene was marked by commiserations with the families of the victims, as he acknowledged the devastating impact of the tragedy. The government’s swift response to the incident is a testament to its commitment to the well-being and safety of its citizens.
