SDP Pegs Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms for Local Government Elections
Ahead of the local government elections in Imo State, Nigeria, slated for September 21, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the prices for its Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms. According to the party’s state chairman, Amb. Dr. Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, the forms will cost N150,000 and N50,000 for chairmanship and councillorship positions, respectively.
The announcement was made on Saturday in Owerri, during a chat with journalists. Eluwa outlined the details of the forms, stating that the Expression of Interest Form for chairmanship positions costs N50,000, while the Nomination Form costs N100,000. For councillorship positions, the Expression of Interest Form costs N10,000, and the Nomination Form costs N40,000.
In a bid to make the process more accessible, the SDP has introduced a discounted rate for women and senior citizens. They will pay 50% of the stipulated amount, making it more affordable for them to participate in the election process. Additionally, Persons with Disabilities will receive the forms free of charge.
The state chairman explained that the prices were pegged low to enable party members to easily express their interest in running for local government positions. He emphasized that the SDP is a purely democratic party, dedicated to raising leaders who will uphold the causes of humanity and make life better for all citizens.
Eluwa also hailed the Supreme Court for granting autonomy to Local Government Administration in the country, describing the judgement as a victory for democracy. He believes that the move will improve good governance, prosperity, and enhance grassroots development.
The SDP’s announcement is a significant development in the run-up to the local government elections, which are expected to shape the future of governance in Imo State. With the prices for nomination and expression of interest forms now announced, party members can begin to prepare for the elections, which are set to take place on September 21.
