APC Eyes Sweeping Victory in South-East Nigeria Ahead of 2027 Elections
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its determination to capture Abia and Enugu states in Nigeria’s South-East region in the 2027 general elections. According to Ijeoma Arodiogu, the national vice chairman of APC, the party has made significant inroads in the region and is poised to win all the states in the South-East.
Arodiogu made the statement during the APC South-East stakeholders’ meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, where several bigwigs of the party were in attendance. The party has reportedly concluded discussions with four Labour Party House of Representatives members in Enugu State, who are set to defect to APC.
In Abia State, the party has received several opposition party leaders, including former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chinedu Orji. Arodiogu expressed confidence that the party will take all the states in the South-East, stating that they are not looking for anything less than 80-90% of the votes in the 2027 presidential election.
The party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, also emphasized the need for cohesion and unity to win Abia, Anambra, and Enugu states. Ganduje described the issues surrounding these states as a big threat, but expressed determination to "liberate" them.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, called on the people of the South-East to remain faithful to the APC administration. Kalu praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in the region, including appointments and infrastructure development.
The APC’s bold claims have sparked mixed reactions, with some observers questioning the party’s ability to deliver on its promises. However, the party’s determination to win the South-East region is a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape.
