Corbin Burnes to Start 2024 All-Star Game for American League
In a highly anticipated announcement, Major League Baseball (MLB) revealed that Corbin Burnes, the ace pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles, will start the 2024 All-Star Game on Tuesday. Burnes, 29, has been having a phenomenal season, boasting a 2.43 ERA with 110 strikeouts and a 1.045 WHIP over 19 starts and 118 2/3 innings.
The announcement was made on Monday when MLB tweeted out the starting lineups for both leagues. Burnes will face off against National League starter and rookie phenom Paul Skenes at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
This is Burnes’ fourth consecutive All-Star selection, but his first with the Orioles. On the previous three occasions, he represented the Milwaukee Brewers, the team that drafted him in the fourth round in 2016 and traded him to the Orioles on February 1 after six seasons as the standout in Milwaukee’s rotation.
Burnes has been the anchor of Baltimore’s rotation, which will become even more crucial in the second half of the season as teams battle injuries and fatigue. Fans can watch Burnes take the mound on Tuesday and make history as the first Orioles pitcher to start the All-Star Game.
The American League’s starting lineup for the All-Star Game is as follows:
