PDP Governors Converge in Enugu for Crucial Meeting
Thirteen governors of Nigeria, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are meeting in Enugu, southeastern Nigeria, this week. The meeting, tagged the PDP Governors Forum, promises to be a significant gathering, bringing together some of the country’s top politicians.
The governors, led by Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed, who is also the chairman of the forum, converged on the Enugu State Government House on Wednesday. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and seven other governors were present at the meeting, while Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke and Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri were expected to attend at press time.
Although the meeting’s agenda has not been publicly disclosed, issues expected to dominate deliberations include upcoming party congresses, governorship elections, internal challenges facing the PDP, and the state of the nation. The PDP Governors’ Forum was founded in 2013 by former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and its aim is to provide a platform for governors to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences on how to move the party forward and coordinate policies across their respective states.
To kick-start the meeting, the host governor, Enugu State’s Dr. Peter Mbah, organized a cultural night in the honor of the visiting governors on Tuesday evening. The meeting is seen as crucial in shaping the future of the PDP and the country as a whole, making it a significant event in Nigerian politics.
