Nigeria’s Ruling Party on the Brink of Implosion, says Former Aide
Former media aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has sounded the alarm warning that Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), is on the verge of implosion.
Speaking publicly for the first time since his removal as Chief Whip by the Senate, Ahmad specifically expressed fear that the APC is repeating the same mistakes made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 2011 and 2015. This period saw internal conflicts and divisions within the PDP, ultimately leading to its loss in several elections.
The warning comes shortly after Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, was removed as Chief Whip. Ndume’s removal was reportedly motivated by his recent criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In his removal letter, the Senate pointed out that Ndume had made public statements that undermined his position as Chief Whip. The president’s administration has faced mounting public discontent, particularly over issues related to food scarcity and security.
Ndume, who was replaced by Senator Tahir Mungono as Chief Whip, had publicly declared that the government is not doing enough to address the food crisis and that President Tinubu is out of touch with what’s happening outside the Aso Villa.
This sentiment was echoed by Bashir Ahmad, who stated that the APC would be making a grave mistake by closing its doors to individuals who can contribute to its electoral success. He called on the party to be more open to such individuals, rather than pushing them away.
The situation raises concerns about the political stability of Nigeria and the future of the ruling APC. With the party facing a split and divisions within its ranks, a potential implosion could lead to significant consequences for the country’s democratic stability.
