Malaysia’s Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad Hospitalized for Continuous Coughing

Malaysia’s nearly 100-year-old former prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, has been hospitalized for “continuous coughing”, his aide told AFP Thursday. According to Sufi Yusoff, Mahathir is expected to be treated for the next few days and was admitted to the hospital on Monday.

This is not the first time Mahathir has faced health issues. He has suffered several heart problems in recent years and underwent bypass surgeries. In fact, he spent nearly three months in hospital earlier this year.

Born on July 10, 1925, Mahathir served as prime minister twice, first taking office as the country’s fourth national leader from 1981 until 2003. He then served as prime minister for a second time at the age of 92 from 2018 to 2020.

Despite his advanced age, Mahathir remains a significant figure in Malaysian politics and is still widely respected for his leadership and achievements. As news of his hospitalization spreads, many are sending well-wishes and hoping for a speedy recovery.
