From Poverty to Stardom: Rema’s Journey Inspired by His Mum’s Struggles
Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has opened up about the driving forces behind his successful music career. In an exclusive interview with Capital Xtral London, the 22-year-old artist revealed that his mother’s poverty and daily struggles inspired him to take his music to the next level.
Rema’s mum, a hardworking individual, often couldn’t afford transport fares, forcing her to trek every day to get to her daily business. This harsh reality had a profound impact on the young musician, who was determined to make a difference. “I was tired of my mum trekking every day; she didn’t even have money for transport to use a bus or bike. So I had to take it to the next level ASAP,” he recalled.
As Rema’s music career took off, he knew exactly what to do with his newfound wealth. He prioritized his mum’s happiness, gifting her a car the moment he made enough money. “The moment I made money, I got her a car ASAP. We went for dinner, then I gave her that car. A lot of boys would go for their own cars first, but I was still trekking, but I had to get a car for my mum first,” he explained.
Rema credits his mum’s unwavering support and prayers for his success. “She’s a great mum. She’s the reason I’m successful. Her prayers. She’s really proud of me,” he said, expressing his deep appreciation for her sacrifices.
Rema’s journey from poverty to stardom serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of music and the importance of recognizing the struggles of those around us. With his inspiring story, Rema is inspiring a new generation of artists and music lovers alike.
