Darkness Looms in Abuja and Surrounding States as TCN Issues Disconnection Notice to AEDC

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has issued a five-working-day disconnection notice to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) over non-compliance with the provisions of the Market Rules. The notice, signed by TCN’s Market Operator, Ali Ahmad, on Friday, threatens to plunge the cities of Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi into darkness if the AEDC fails to remedy its infractions.

According to the notice, the proposed disconnection date is July 28, 2024. The disconnection will be carried out at the 33kV feeder from the 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Station and Feeder 3 from the 132/33kV Central Area Transmission Station.

The TCN cited the AEDC’s non-compliance with Section 15.3.3.a of the Market Rules, which deals with the distribution of electricity. The company has been given a deadline of five business days from the date of the notice to remedy its infractions.

The development has raised concerns about the impact on residents and businesses in the affected areas. The AEDC has been notified of its infractions and has been given a chance to correct its mistakes before the disconnection takes effect.

The situation highlights the importance of complying with regulatory guidelines in the electricity sector. The TCN’s action is a reminder that non-compliance can have serious consequences, including disruptions to essential services.

The people of Abuja and surrounding states are anxiously waiting to see if the AEDC will take the necessary steps to avoid the disconnection.
